Product Description An extraordinary story about the adventure of faith and the power of persevering prayer
On a summers day in 1727 a community of Moravians started praying and didnt stop for more than 100 years. Throughout history God has mobilised such movements and moments of 24/7 prayer from the Upper Room of Pentecost to Azusa Street in Los Angeles, through ancient Celtic saints and extraordinary characters like Alexander the Sleepless. This is the story of a movement of the Spirit in our time, a move as ancient as it is modern. As young people desert the church and AIDS orphans Africa, a new generation is learning to pray and obey like never before. From Communist China to Washington DC and from the ranks of the Salvation Army to anarchic German punks, the 24-7 Prayer movement has been interceding continually, night and day, since 1999 in more than fifty countries. This is their extraordinary story; an honest account of pain and perseverance alongside pioneering mission and miraculous answers to prayer.

God is alive and well May 27, 2010 Billie A. Maynard (Oxford, Ohio USA) Do you want to see the book of Acts come alive? Then laugh, cry, and be amazed as the author communicates Jesus alive in the 21st century with signs and wonders. In the midst of a postmodern age, the author is a story teller relating how the "lost generation of youth" is rediscovering the ancient practice of prayer and its results bringing revival across the world. It is a book of hope.

24/7 Prayer September 1, 2009 Mrs. Mary Reeves (Cornwall, England) This is a really good book, and so encouraging to know how God is at work through this generation and prayer - highly recommended!
Some Good Reading Prayer But Some Bad As Well December 25, 2008 Roy Ingle (Augusta, GA) 8 out of 9 found this review helpful
I first of all want to say that I am thankful for the 24-7 prayer movement. Church history shows us that revival only comes when God's people seek His face (Isaiah 55:6) and as John Wesley said, "God does nothing in the earth realm but through prayer." Jesus taught us to pray for God's kingdom to come (Matthew 6:10) and He also taught us to pray always and not lose heart (Luke 18:1). The 24-7 prayer movement has focused people on the importance and power of true prayer (James 5:16-17).
This book focuses on the that movement. The book is essentially "faith building stories" meant to inhance your passion for prayer. The tone of the book is one of conversations on prayer and shows people not just talking about prayer but actually seeking the heart of God for this generation. Miracles, salvation, etc. will only come, writes the author, when the children of God hunger for God in prayer. The book's stories do increase your heart for prayer as you see what ordinary people are doing for the kingdom through prayer.
The problems with this book are twofold for me. First, I would have appreciated a greater focus on the Word of God about prayer. People can pray but we must pray biblically (1 John 5:14-15). Prayer can become nothing more than mysticism when you abandon what the Scriptures teach about prayer. Further, prayer can be experience based instead of Bible based and then it leads only to failure when the emotions run out. We are to pray because God has said for us to do so in His Word (1 Thessalonians 5:17) and not just because of experiences or the stories of others.
Second, the author tends to have some emergent leanings. In fact, he recommends Brian McLaren in this book. The emergent movement is not an orthodox movement and their rejection of sound theology will only lead to chaos and heresy which always produces immorality. The emergents clear rejection of absolute truth, sound doctrine, and holding firmly to the faith once for all given to the saints (Jude 3-4) will produce failure. I would that the author would not just reject the emergents but clearly call them to abandon their false ideas for the truths of Scripture and Scripture alone.
Overall I would recommend other books on prayer besides this one. The works of E.M. Bounds, Leonard Ravenhill, A.W. Tozer, Samuel Chadwick, or Charles Spurgeon are much more biblically based than this book. The works of Ravenhill, for example, will spur you on to not only true prayer but to praying God's heart through God's Word.
Different than I expected September 5, 2008 Jessa.B (Manchester, NH) Before I started reading this book, I was able to take part of a 24 hour prayer room. This book was in the prayer room, and I started reading just a little. Greig captured me within the first page. When I bought the book, I expected it to be a how-to kind of book, and I was very pleasantly surprised. Greig recounts how he started his prayer room, and how that kickstarted the prayer movement throughout Europe. He is very careful to give every bit of credit to God and people's capacity for God. It is a compelling story...not a how-to. Again, I was very pleasantly surprised, and I would recommend this book to anyone who has a heart for prayer or a desire to pray fiercefully.
