5 out of 5 stars Miami Cartel at it's finest!!!!!!! Page Turner like WHOA!!!!   February 10, 2010
Amanda Mcclain (Orlando, Florida)
This book will grip you, hold your attention, and when I say you will find yourself getting mad if the damn phone rings I mean just that lol Carter is suave, a real gent, and very much about his money so please don't get it twisted, Mecca one word "VISCIOUS" can be down right sloppy when he is gettin' high, Money has the brains and very much a relaxed dude when it comes to getting blood on his shirt for sure. I like Breeze there sister but she really needed a reality check in this book. The way this book starts off so off the chain let's just say it reminds you of "New Jack City" infront of the church at the wedding while Keith Sweat sings and them bullets ring.... LOUD!!! Please read this book you will be so surprised and excited, this is a must read I read it all in one day that's how good it was already on the Cartel 2... starting tomorrow :-)

3 out of 5 stars Strong elements to be a classic   December 24, 2009

3.5 stars.
I sooo want to give the book a higher grade because it definitely had elements of going down as a classic and I gobbled the book up in a day, but I have to agree with some other reviewers as far as character development, timeline, believability in some scenes. Who needs Ma'tee when you have Mecca? The last 50 pages things were moving at a clip that made feel like I was reading an outline or a to-do list rather than a novel or maybe even child telling me "then this happened and then that happened and then-" There was consistancy problems-first Young Carter was from the streets, then he grew up in a 200k home in Flint. In Flint??? That's a mansion. Next he was back to growing up on the streets. And what about his real momma? Where she at? But at the end of the day, the fiction writer's job is to entertain you and I have to say I was entertained and will move on to book 2.

5 out of 5 stars Good book   December 10, 2009

When I first started reading this book I sat thinking to myself "I know this is suppose to be fiction but this is just too unbelievable for me." The most powerful organization in Miami at times seemed to be run by amateurs. But even with that being said I couldn't put the book down. Even though Ashley and Jaquavis' writing style in this book isn't really polished it puts me in the mindset of something Donald Goines would write just as a comparison of writing "styles". Not necessarily putting this book on one of his' level.

Even though I could tell the direction the book was going to take I still got into the characters and enjoyed this book very much. So much so I couldn't wait to read the sequel. Just speaking as if I hadn't read part 2 I was wondering how they would continue with this series after how things turned out in the original. (I was pleasantly surprised, now I'm waiting for 3 to drop and I'm still left in suspense).

So even with all it's flaws and faults I'd give this book my highest marks and I wouldn't hesitate to read it again.
