Product Description Nationally recognized marijuana-policy experts Steve Fox, Paul Armentano, and Mason Tvert compare and contrast the relative harms and legal status of the two most popular recreational substances in the world--marijuana and alcohol. Through an objective examination of the two drugs and the laws and social practices that steer people toward alcohol, the authors pose a simple yet rarely considered question: Why do we punish adults who make the rational, safer choice to use marijuana instead of alcohol?Marijuana Is Safer reaches for a broad audience. For those unfamiliar with marijuana, it provides an introduction to the cannabis plant and its effects on the user, and debunks some of the government's most frequently cited marijuana myths. For current and aspiring advocates of marijuana-law reform, as well as anyone else who is interested in what is becoming a major political battle, the authors spell out why the message that marijuana is safer than alcohol must be a prominent part of the public debate over legalization. Most importantly, for the millions of Americans who want to advance the cause of marijuana-policy reform--or simply want to defend their own personal, safer choice--this book provides the talking points and detailed information needed to make persuasive arguments to friends, family, coworkers, and elected officials.

The best book ever for Cannabis Education! August 5, 2010 AngieTHEGADGETLOVER (Houston,) Ok, I have been against pot forever. I got this book because I wanted to know the truth from the nixon crap. I have heard of government coverups and I know for a fact that alcohol is the worst drug on the planet cause I have witnessed the effects with family members over and over again! So I have changed my mind the way I think about pot now. I think that cigarettes and alcohol are the most dangerous between the 3. So pharmaceutical companies pay big bucks to keep it illegal because it is a medicine for many things. There are hidden coverup studies that the government knows it cures cancer but who is going to make campaign contributions if pharmaceutical companies don't. Here's a link if you don't believe me.

Powerful, thorough book August 2, 2010 S. Lovering (Venice, CA, United States) This book delivers a powerful blow to the failed policy of marijuana prohibition. It not only lays out the comprehensive data on how marijuana compares to alcohol in terms of addictiveness, toxicity, impairment, death and injury toll (safer on all counts), etc. but also compares the systems for regulating the two drugs (alcohol is taxed and regulated -- i.e., legalized, and marijuana is prohibited (that is, its regulation is left up to street dealers and cartels)). The authors reference their sources and come at the issue with a very measured approach that examines policies from the stance of how well they achieve their stated goals, and whether their stated goals make sense given the facts about each drug's safety record. Send this book to your doubting friends and relatives as a basis for a more informed conversation on the topic.
Truth about society July 21, 2010 Juergen Very good investigated and written.
It is high time, finally to drop off with the dishonest social system (alcohol yes - cannabis no).
Cannabis is a cure - not a crime! It even heals cancer. The real crime is the prohibition of this harmless plant and for sure all the harm induced by the prosecutors against all the innocent people.
The best (only?) book on the subject June 19, 2010 Buddy B. (USA) This is an amazing book, well-researched, well-documented, well-reasoned. In a perfect world, this book would be in the hands of every lawmaker and law enforcer in the country. Oh, and they would READ it. Because if, after reading it, you still aren't convinced that marijuana prohibition should be ended, then there is no help!
My only problem is that my book fell apart while I was reading it! Maybe I was so enthralled that I was being overly rough with it, I don't know. But my wife is reading it after me, and after that, I'm going to pass it along to someone else, who I hope passes it to someone else.
A great book!
Excellent Resource! May 27, 2010 Jackster (Eureka, MT) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I wish I had a copy of this for every member of Congress, State legislator, police officer, school administrator, and parent as it really makes sense. We live in a society that promotes alcohol, when there is a much better option out there. Marijuana may not be for everyone, but it could improve an incredible number of people's lives. Alcohol not only leads to incredible acts of violence, sexual promiscuity, and child neglect and abuse, because we believe that the overwhelming number of people can consume alcohol sensibly and responsibly. If marijuana were actually promoted, we could have a more compassionate, productive society that could be leaders environmentally if we promoted hemp production as well.
