| Editorial Reviews:
Amazon.com This rousing basketball drama centers around Tommy "Shep" Sheppard (Leon), a former high school basketball star now haunted by the accidental death of his best friend, and Kyle Watson (Duane Martin), an arrogant high school player in danger of slipping into crime. Though Shep avoids commitment in his life as a security guard, his attraction to Kyle's mother (Tonya Pinkins) draws him out of his protective shell--but Kyle is more interested in mentorship from Shep's gangster brother Birdie (Tupac Shakur). Above the Rim is melodramatic but played with grit and energy by a solid cast, particularly Shakur. Writer-director Jeff Pollack keeps the story moving and gives the characters enough spin to rescue them from being clichés; the result is engaging despite its formulas. Also featuring Bernie Mac and Marlon Wayans. --Bret Fetzer

Above the Rim August 30, 2010 Jose Lopez (Miami,Florida USA) Tupac as "Birdie" is great and you have Marlon Wayans in this gritty street ball tale, I love the opening shot song which Ironically only came out on The soundtrack tape instead of the CD? I have the song luckily and of course who can Forget "Regulate"? but songs aside Bernie Mac(R.I.P.) is in there as well and like the rest of the cast puts in great effort.
Sleeper hit June 24, 2010 Carl Mickens This is a good movie. It doesn't take it's self too serious and it's not corny either. I like the story, the acting was good too. This is a movie that you just chill too!
AMERICA'S CRITIC May 15, 2010 David R. Lingard (memphis tn) THIS MOVIE IS A CLASSIC AND TUPAC DID THIS ROLE INCREDIBLE AND ITS A FIERCE MOVIE THAT BRINGS GREAT ENTERTAING EXPERIENCE THAT MAKES THIS MOVIE A CLASSIC. ABOVE THE RIM IS A MUST HAVE AND A GREAT ONE TO WATCH ON ONE OF THOSE RAINY DAYS.
Above The Rim is very underrated January 22, 2010 G. H. D. lll (Plainfield, NJ) Damn! what a movie its a great situation what do you do when your life is on the line and you have the talent to make it to the NBA. Kyle mess around with the wrong people and he was lucky to live to play at Georgetown. Tupac played a role in the movie and he did a very good job.
