Editorial Reviews:

Amazon.com essential recording
The gruesome details surrounding Tupac's third solo offering are enough to give any music fan the willies. Released when Tupac was in jail serving time for a rape conviction and just after his recovery from being shot-up gangland-style at a recording studio, this was his most introspective piece of work to date. The heavy-hearted album opens up with a radio commentary describing the circumstances surrounding his shooting, and then plunges headfirst into Pac's infatuation with death. "So Many Tears," "Death Around the Corner," and "If I Die 2Nite" are all dark, eerily prophetic tunes that lend credence to widespread theories which suggest that Pac anticipated his impending death. The perpetually thugged-out wonder reveals a more benevolent side when it comes to gender and family issues. On "Dear Mama"--a fitting tribute to his mother recorded in the "Keep Ya Head Up" vein--Pac takes listeners into the loving recesses of his heart, while on "Can U Get Away," he echoes similar respectful sentiments to black womynkind. This is probably Pac's most progressive issues-oriented release before he signed to Death Row and became a full-blown thug. --Dalton Higgins

5 out of 5 stars AMAZING THROWBACK CD!   January 6, 2009
I was hesitant to buy an old 2Pac CD in fear it would be an unauthorized copy but it was the real deal. Thanks.

5 out of 5 stars 2pac Shines Lyrically on His Strongest Release   December 11, 2008
Although many of 2pac's releases have often been hailed as legendary (the two disc set, 'All Eyez on Me', instantly comes to mind), many of them failed to live up to the enormous amount of hype and praise surrounding them. 'Me Against the World', if anything, is truly the 2pac album that lives up to its acclaim - and then some!

Is it the beats that make this 2pac's best effort? They're certainly good, but it's mainly the lyrics that make 'Me Against the World' the classic it is. Sure, the nice beats do a wonderful job of accompanying them, but the heartfelt, passionate, and strong lyrics of songs such as 'So Many Tears', 'If I Die 2Nite', and 'Temptations' that make this stand out against 2pac's other releases.

From remincising about his old days as a thuggin' youth ('Young ******'), to shouting out some love to his mother ('Dear Mama'), and then later even sending some love back to the early masters of the hip-hop genre that paved the way for him ('Old School'), you will find a variety of emotions on here. From love to pain, anger, to lust, this is the album that truly showed what 2pac was capable of lyrically.

'Me Against the World' is truly 2pac's finest hour. Even though the beats do an excellent job here, it's the personal and profound lyricism that makes it the classic it is.

5 out of 5 stars one of tupac's best c.ds   October 11, 2008

2PAC IS THE GREATEST RAPPER OF ALL TIME!!!!! HE WAS ONE OF THE MOST CHARISMATIC, OUTSPOKEN, PERSON, WHO WAS NOT AFRAID TO SHARE HIS TRUE FEELINGS AND STRUGGLES WITH THE WORLD. HIS 3RD C.D. "ME AGAINST THE WORLD", WHICH WAS A MASTERPIECE, SHOWED THE MANY EMOTIONS HE WAS FEELING DURING 1994 AND 1995. 2PAX RECORDED PART IF THE ALBLUM WHILE RECOVERING FROM 5 GUNSHOT WOUNDS. MANY OF THE SONGS ON THE ALBLUM TELL THE STORY OF A MAN ON THE EDGE. EXAMPLES OF THIS CAN BE FOUND ON THE SONGS LIKE, "SO MANY TEARS", "LORD KNOWS", "IF I DIE 2NITE", ANDALSO "DEATH AROUND THE CORNER". BUT EVEN WITH THOSE SONGS THE C.D. ,SONGS LIKE DEAR MOMA , TEMPTATIONS, AND IT ANIT EASY HELP TO BALANCE OUT THE C.D. ME AGAINST THE WORLD IS A GREAT C.D. THAT WAS GOOD IN 1995 AND IS STILL GREAT MORE THAN 10 YEARS AFTER ITS RELEASE. I WOULD RECOMMENED THIS TO ANYONE WHO IS A FAN OF 2PAC. ITS ONE OF THE REASON Y HE IS A LEGEND.

5 out of 5 stars My First True Exposure To 2PAC   July 18, 2008

Admittedly, I was never a huge fan of his but this album made me respect the talent that this tragic figure had. What turned me onto this album was "Dear Mama." Having been raised by a single mom after she and my dad divorced, I could feel some of the emotions that 2PAC was relaying in this rap tune. Even my own mom liked this and she HATES rap!

Other songs that I liked were the title track, "So Many Tears" and "Young N***az." Overall, the whole album is a classic! Would highly recommend this album!
